On 7-8 March 2018, the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) and UN Environment organised a regional expert workshop in Nairobi, Kenya on “Regional Perspectives on Sustainable Chemistry Innovation and the Global Chemicals Outlook II: Understanding Trends, Risks and Opportunities in Africa”. The results from the workshop will feed into the Global Chemicals Outlook II (GCO-II), being developed by UN Environment, and inform an ISC3 scenario process to be initiated later in 2018 to identify opportunities for a transition to a more sustainable chemistry.
The participants which included Dr. Edu Inam, Director, ICEESR, UNIUYO identified and examined regional megatrends and industry sector trends that may create risks and opportunities for chemicals management and sustainable chemistry innovation in Africa. The workshop provided a unique opportunity for experts from the scientific, the private and public sector to voice expectations, contribute ideas, and be part of the worldwide dialogue on sustainable chemistry innovation from the beginning.
