Minister of State, Ministry of Niger Delta receives ICEESR, UNIUYO Team in Abuja

The International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research, University of Uyo in her quest to strengthen government academia partnership has engaged with the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. The engagement forum was hosted by the Minister of State, Barr Sharon Ikeazor in her office on Thursday 26th January, 2023. The Minister welcomed the delegation which included, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nyaudoh U. Ndaeyo, the Director of the centre Dr. Edu Inam and the Interim Chairman of the governing board Mrs Affiong Ibanga to her office. Present in the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Funso Adebiye, FNES and several Directors of the ministry.

Dr. Inam presented the centres vision, milestones and the benefits the ministry would derive from collaborating with the centre to include supporting the community development of the ministry through scientific and technological solutions developed by the centre; conducting research on areas of interest peculiar to the Niger Delta Region and building capacity among indigens of the region in key areas of applied science, technology, and innovation.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, commended the Ministry for previous interventions in the University of Uyo especially the completion of a model, international hostel accommodation and appealed to the Ministry to support the completion of the research centre building to compliment the hostels facility. This according to the VC, will attract international students to the university, increase the visibility and ranking of the University of Uyo.

On her part, the Minister of State assured the team that the Ministry would collaborate with the centre as she is passionate about the environment and sustainability having previously worked in the Federal Ministry of Environment. She suggested other organisations and Ministries the team should engage with to support the development of the centre towards becoming a research and innovation hub in the Niger Delta Region.

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation by the Vice Chancellor of the Centre’s Project Development Plan Document to the Honourable Minister of State, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
